Stock Market Utilities
1-Click Quotes/StockWatch Stock
Market Utility is a pair of utilities to help you keep an eye on the market.
You can enter up to twenty symbols in 1-Click Quotes, look up any quote you
need, and click to get the close, change, percentage, volume, and quote time.
Highlight any stock symbol to retrieve news, quarterly reports, and a chart
from Yahoo.com. StockWatch has tabs for three stocks where you can enter a
symbol, investment data, and a price movement, so the system can calculate gain
or loss at different levels. A Sell At section lets you enter a proposed level
and calculates the profit or loss. However, the system does not interact with
any online information or provide any alerts, and the help section is somewhat lax
in explaining its purpose. While 1-Click Quotes is easy to use and helpful,
StockWatch's purpose, beyond modeling sells, is unclear.
AcQuest Depreciation Module
organizes and reports the depreciation of your business assets. This database
application makes it easy to apply most depreciation methods, including MACRS,
150% MACRS, MACRS straight-line, ACRS, ordinary straight line,
declining-balance (200%, 150%, and 125%), and amortization. Data entry is easy,
with fill-the-blanks ease and lots of picklists to set your choice of
depreciation parameters. You'll get preformatted reports of your depreciation
status and printout of IRS Form 4562. There's sample data to illustrate the
features, but this beta software doesn't have a manual or help file.
Business Vital Signs is a
spreadsheet application to check your profits, taxes, cashflow, and other vital
business financial stats. The program comes with sample data to illustrate the
features, although you may be confused at the outset when the readme refers to installation
and launch files that don't correspond to what you unzip. Even there is online
help, it is concerned with menu commands rather than program application.
Working through the sheets, you will have a tough time seeing cells that
require data and you will encounter a number of ERR messages in critical cells.
Because the relationships and formulae aren't described in the help, the single
worksheet format of early Lotus doesn't help you to understand what is going
on. Experienced Lotus 1-2-3 users may be comfortable, but spreadsheet newcomers
will have troubles.
Calc-Add is a replacement for the
Windows accessory calculator. It isn't pretty, but it might offer some
functionality not found in the default math module. This no-frills utility
offers data input in adding machine or calculator modes with floating decimal
and a tape of your calculations. A memory function lets you hold a number, add
to it, and apply it quickly to your calculations. You can set the program to
run "always on top" or in a "micro-window" minimode to keep
it available at your fingertips without covering your main work applications.
There's a help file to explain its features.
Cal-Fed CE is a continuing
education course for California tax preparers and interviewers. Browse through
brief updates for the California and Federal tax codes. Use the date provided
to prepare a return as a test, and submit it to the author, who offers a
certificate and continuing hours for those passing the test.
ComboCalc puts processor speed in
your hands to calculate variances. It allows you to search up to 500 entries
and 40 combinations to that end. Specify the value range, the number of
entries, and the number of combinations to retrieve your results with lightning
speed. Ample documentation is available.
A commodity trading reference
manual in Windows Help format. Includes definitions, examples and references. A
host of trading terms defined. Deals with hedging, market orders, options,
spreads, trading terms and techniques. References, where possible, include
address, telephone, FAX, EMail and Web address. The section on charting
includes Bar, Candlestick and Point and Figure charting.
Currency Pro converts cash among
228 different currencies around the world. The alphabetically tabbed program
gives quick access to each of the many currencies available. Key an amount into
the main entry window and make your choice, and then browse through each
alphabetical list as well as a major tab, since each currency is automatically
updated. The password-protected system lets you access exchange rates so you
can update them, and you can save the rates to a file so you can review them
for accuracy. Manual updates are necessary to keep rates current. Although you
can save a long list of all rates, you cannot save selected conversions.
CurrencyPro, with its comprehensive list of currency conversions, could be
helpful for a variety of purposes.
Digital Trader is a stock ticker
that retrieves the latest quotes for the stocks in your portfolio. Launch DT
and it finds your internet connection and browser, then retrieves the necessary
components to contact Web-based quote servers. The small ticker interface is
attractive, but the install may confuse you at first by launching your browser
(even if it is already running), then possibly leaving the browser stalled. A
license agreement displays, but its text is too small to read. Overall this
cute utility leaves the impression of an unfinished work, but it does get the
quotes.
Dpc8DLux tracks your assets and
generates depreciation schedules for tax and book purposes. Its reports show
your annual depreciation expense year by year. For tax purposes, most tangible
depreciable property placed in service after 1986 must be depreciated under
MACRS. Dpc8DLux gives you the option of using the MACRS half-year or
mid-quarter convention for property being depreciated over 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, or
20 years. Schedules for 27.5 and 39 years use the IRS-defined MACRS mid-month
convention. For book purposes, Dpc8DLux generates schedules of any duration
with either straight line, double declining balance, or the sum of the years
digits method. If you need to depreciate your business assets and want to know
the numbers, this easy-to-use program can do the job.
Easy Street is an ideal tool for
stock-market investors who retrieve market information from CompuServe. It can
manage stock and mutual fund data for any number of portfolios. You enter your
portfolio's transaction, quote, and other information into a spreadsheet form
that Easy Street will automatically update in one log-on. Then you can view or
print profit-and-loss reports and graphs. Data updates can be set to occur
automatically. Also included is a loan-and-savings calculator. This is a minor
update, which adds a Quotes History Report.
Euro Magic takes the drudgery out
of currency conversions. Select the currency to be converted from the drop-down
picklist of 12 Euro fixed and six Euro variable currencies. Then enter the
amount to be converted. The program instantly displays the equivalent in
virtually all European currencies and U.S. dollars. Among the supported
currencies are British pounds, Belgian and Austrian Shillings, French and Swiss
Francs, Greek Drachma, Spanish Peseta, Portugese Escudo, German Marks, and
several more. A custom feature lets you set variable-rate currencies as they
change in relation to the Euro. This free program is handy for anyone who deals
in multiple forms of European money.
The easy and fast monetary converter,
not only for Euro currencies. It converts, at the same time, 18 different
currencies simply clicking on the desired flag. The currencies out of Euro, are
totally customizable by user. There is a simple use of the clipboard.
EUROPRICE Version 2.0 EuroPrice is
a powerful tool to help you easily convert your documents between various
currencies. EuroPrice was developped with respect to the special requirements
of the changeover to the common European currency.
EZStock Plus lets the
computer-based investor create portfolios of investments in virtually any world
market, then automatically retrieve real-time quotes and historical data. If
historical data isn't precompiled online, EZStock will build the data for you
in a short period of time. The Outlook-style dual-pane window lets you organize
your investments in hierarchical order on the left while viewing the latest
pricing info or Web pages on the right. The program will auto-retrieve the
latest market numbers and advise you when preset alert conditions are met. The
interface is bright and easy to interpret, so you won't need much help getting
started. It provides one-click access to each company's Quote, Web Site,
Profile, Charts, News, Reports, Message Board, Technical Indicators, and
Forecast through a built-in browser. It graphs and charts technical indicators,
including RSI, MACD, K%D, MTM, OBV, MTM, CCI, NVI, PVI, DMI and ADX for each
stock and mutual fund. A Notifier feature automatically emails you market
changes. Online trading is supported.
Financial Manager for Windows
performs financial evaluations and manages cash flow so your company can meet
its financial obligations. This excellent program can examine your company's
operating performance and determine corporate liquidity and value. It is driven
by an easy-to-use menu system and produces superb detailed reports for viewing
or printing. Also included are an appointment calendar, calculator, notepad,
and glossary of financial terms.

inTer v9.02.09 - inTer is a 32-bit
financial calculator. It includes all mathematical and financial functions. Its
RPN function lets you compute the interest rate of any cash transaction. You
can calculate the real interest rate of loans, investments, saving accounts,
leasing, and more.
Invest will maintain your
portfolio of stocks, options, and mutual funds. Enter your accounts,
investments, and transactions manually, or import data from Quicken or MS
Money. A click on the no-frills toolbar will update your portfolio value, but
you won't see any indication of what occurred until you return to the program's
tables from the download display. Entry of investments is aided by a link to
Yahoo's symbol lookup page, but you'll need to call up the Windows calculator
to enter transaction values -- the program doesn't do the extension math or add
commissions. There's a Web link to investment news and basic performance
charting, but no analysis tools. A capital gains calculator is built into the
program, along with a link to download the author's income tax form preparation
add-on package.
INVESTCHECK 1.0 - Investment
Analysis. Analyzes investments and produces annual Cash flow statements,
reports present values, changes in purchasing power and wealth created.
Calculates bond price and duration, Tbill yield, equivalent yield and price,
loan repayment and amortization tables.
Investment Calculator for Windows
v1.2 Calculates compound interest.
Investment Calculator
(Depreciation Calculations) can compute depreciation using eight different
methods. The basic interface lets you choose from straight-line, straight-line
with two rates, accelerated cost recovery, sinking fund (asset book value),
sinking fund (depreciation charges), fixed percentage (declining balance),
constant unit use, and sum of the digits methods. Each module offers data-entry
boxes and quickly delivers a spreadsheet-style result in the adjacent window;
only one method can be displayed at a time. In addition, context-sensitive help
makes specific instructions, and an example is available to help you use the
system. This program could be useful, though its practical use is hampered by
the fact that results can only be printed, not copied or exported to the
logical spreadsheet or other location.
Investment Helper and Auto
Downloader are combined to help you download historical quotes from online data
services. Use the tabbed interface with tree-style views of custom groups of
stocks and mutual funds, and right-click to view data. The system can import
stock symbol lists; stores data in Microsoft Access format; and can export in a
variety of user-defined formats, such as for Windows On Wall Street. Other
features include password protection; trading activity register and reports;
scheduled downloads of data; and a stock day watch that shows the time, price,
and volume changes, current price and volume, and other data. We were unable to
add our own stock or fund choices; the limitations of this trial version are
not documented. An extensive help file with a "how to" section helps
you to get a handle on the system, which can be a bit intimidating.
Investment Helper Lite is a system
for downloading 30-day stock quotes and daily mutual fund quotes from the
Internet. The compact, tabbed interface lets you schedule a time and the days
of the week when you want to automatically download data. You can manually add
and import stock and fund symbols, and then import the lists. You can also
export data as individual text for use with third-party analysis software; this
version is compatible with Windows on Wall Street. Documentation is good and
the system is easy to use. A regular version, which is more versatile and
contains a wider range of options, is also available.
Investment Station organizes all
the links you can imagine into a single, dedicated browser interface. Building
on Internet Explorer, Investment Station gives you a pair of easy-to-navigate
directory windows; one for quotes, analysis, news and stats, and a second
tabbed window for Web research and organization of your portfolios. Simply
enter a stock symbol in the quotes window and then link to the latest market
news, profit/loss statements, charts of performance of short and long term, and
recommendations from the experts. You're not locked into a single analyst or
site with Investment Station so you'll be getting a bigger picture of stock
status. This free software is supported by a novel refueling concept in which
you gain points as you use the program for visiting sites, sending email or
using advertised services. The downside is that overlapping windows which can't
be relocated occasionally block scrolling controls and prevent access to
toolbars. The ease of access to information makes that a small price to pay.
InvestmentSpy (Ispy) grabs
critical investment info off the Internet in real time, to help you make
important financial decisions. Whether you're a novice learning about
investments or an experienced day-trader seeking the latest-breaking news on a
critical issue, you'll find the info at your fingertips with Ispy. The logical,
multipaned, tabbed-dialog interface is easy to learn, and along with the
QuickStart and sample portfolio info you'll be up and running in a hurry. Build
multiple portfolios to track all your investments. Click on a symbol to get
news, history, and current performance. Links get you SEC filings, tips from
experts, the latest market averages, and calculated what-if summaries of your
positions based on holdings, buys, or sells. Other features include alarms,
broker links, and message boards, plus extra goodies such as the Spy Buzz (which
offers tips on hot issues) and the current top 10 for percentage or dollar
movement on the Dow, NASDAQ, or S&P 500.
Invest'nOrganize is a personal
finance system built using the FileMaker 2 runtime engine. It's designed to
maintain your investments and report on their performance. However, this
non-intuitive system is a challenge to understand and operate, and minimal help
is provided. Reports and sample data are included, but those familiar with
FileMaker 2's structure might be the only users able to work with the program.
This trial version was created to let you become familiar with the product, but
the author states that certain scripts will not function because the updating
of fields is restricted.
Investrak can manage an investor's
portfolio and can accommodate futures and options. The colorful interface uses
a stock certificate background that frames the tabbed information window.
Unfortunately, the system's window is not resizable, and tedious horizontal
scrolling is needed to view all the information associated with an entry. A
small, scrollable browser window is also a part of the main window. Features
include a portfolio manager, transaction manager, stock updates from Internet
sources, a ticker tape with choices of dozens of indices, and securities
charts. A strong help file outlines and works through each program feature, and
a brief overview of stocks is included. Investrak is not especially intuitive
in some areas and will require consultation with the help file for a better
understanding of its ins and outs. Some features are apparently not implemented
in this beta release.
iStockMaster is an easy-to-use
Internet download portal for your latest investment data. Simply enter the
stock symbols and the program will quickly retrieve the latest number and
present an easy-to-understand data form with highs, low, capitalization,
yields, equity position, and recommendation summary. A graphing window shows
performance over time as well as volume and trend data. The no-frills interface
lets you navigate the info with just four major buttons: exchanges, companies,
portfolios, and investments. You can add an exchange if you use other than
NASDAQ, NYSE, or AMEX; check performance over any interval you prefer; add a
sale or purchase to your portfolio and quickly create a company report with
clear graphs of the data. Help is just a click away through your browser, with
clear hyperlinked chapters to explain the operation. Note: This free software
contains advertising technology that will occasionally use your Internet
connection to receive and display ads.

Net Operating Loss (NOL-C) is a
DOS program to compile filing information if you intend to claim a business
loss for taxes. The "calc" worksheet assists in calculating any net
operating loss you may have. The "carry" worksheet helps calculate
the amount of your net operating loss that is deductible for a particular year,
whether it is a carryback or carryover. And the "record" worksheet
allows you to record your NOL and assists in the calculations. There is an
eight-page text file to explain the criteria for claiming an NOL, and there is
a basic DOS calculator to perform your arithmetic.
NeuroStock uses neural net
algorithms to provide buy/sell/hold recommendations for stocks. You enter stock
trading data by downloading historical numbers from the built in internet link
then allow NeuroStock to 'train' itself regarding stock trends, tendencies,
patterns, and performance. Based on the training data and without consideration
of aberrations such as mergers, offerings, or product announcements, the
program will advise you to buy or sell. NeuroStock 6 makes use of six neurons
for developing predictions. More neurons will generate greater accuracy and are
available through a variety of registration options.
Net Present Value (NPV) of
Discounted Cash Flows is a free financial calculator that quickly and easily
determines the present value of an investment or income property. Enter the cash
flow provided by the investment over periods up to ten years, then see the NPV
at five adjustable discount rates. For general estimates of the value of an
income-producing asset, this software could do the job. For detailed financial
reporting, you may want more information about the assumptions used to
calculate these values.
Option Guru is a futures and
options tool for professional and beginning investors alike. List your stock,
bond or issue with price, volatility and fees. Then note one- or two-option
alternatives with calls, puts, buy/sell orders and caps. Option Guru's powerful
graphing functions let you make purchasing decisions by clearly showing you
what a potential trade or position will be worth as the underlying price
fluctuates over time. Slider bars let you vary volatility and view the impact
on price ranges. Option Guru includes Trade Tracker, which allows you to track
the profit/loss of your trades and to graph your open positions. There is no
summary of portfolio values: each issue is a separate file. The range of
several data entries is restricted until you register. Option Guru has detailed
online help, but no sample data files.
Option Insight is beta software
that promises to make options trading understandable for the neophyte -- but it
doesn't follow through on the promise. With no help, tutorial, manual, or quick
start data, you'll have to experiment with the minimal control interface to
figure out what is supposed to be happening. Confusion between the program
itself and the linked adware preference survey makes the beginner even more
confused. A detailed readme describes the version history and implies that a
subscription-based service may be involved in the future and encourages a
charter registration, but you'll find no info about registering in the
interface. What the program will do, however, is retrieve options data for any
ticker symbol you enter. The info is displayed on a put and call form with bid
and ask prices, intrinisic values, break-even points on the options contracts
and contract dates. You can sort any column in ascending or descending order.
Unless you're already a knowledgeable options trader, you'd be well advised to
wait for a later version of this.
OptionBook is an MS Excel template
that helps you easily value any stock, index, futures or cash option, and then
lets you watch its price change under any market circumstances that you can
imagine. One of the secrets to successful options trading is an understanding
of implied volatility. OptionBook lets you make this calculation with just a
click. The template calculates market sensitivities (gamma, theta, vega and
rho) in a flash. These numbers show how fast option prices change, and are
valuable tools in tracking risk. Choose the underlying market from a picklist,
then enter your scenario data, volatility, expiration, interest, and dividends
to see call and put values. Or, calculate in the other direction by entering
call or put. The layout is easy to understand and there is context-sensitive
pop-up help on every input field. Remember, though, that your results are only
going to be as good as your input data.
OptionPeer is a program for
individual investors to learn about stock and index Options. A demo guide, as a
second window, is provided to walk you through the operations of the program,
many of which are limited. However, while some of the information does help you
understand OptionPeer, it does not explain concepts. The help file does define
terms, but the system, at least from this minimal sampling, is for those
familiar with the stock market. This version only includes the Introduction and
Appendices, and while the system is very competent, it is difficult to judge
the balance of the program made available following registration.
Options Laboratory helps you
calculate various stock and index options. Track everything from individual
options to complex positions, as well as hedging and risk management, including
broker fees in your calculations. You can accurately analyze options on stocks
and indexes as long as you provide a realistic volatility estimate. This
program is easy to use and can provide useful information for playing the
market. The evaluation version of Options Laboratory restricts the allowable
stock price and volatility values. The registered version comes with both a
manual and textbook.
Windows printing financial
calculator and adding machine. Easy to use via keyboard or with the mouse. User
configurable display; print and save tally roll; full financial functions and
user definable macros for repetitive tasks. Small display mode to allow use on
screen with other applications showing. From Jupiter Software (ASP).
Personal QuoteSpy (PQS) is an
Excel application that will track your investments. Enter your stock symbols
and fill the worksheet blanks to begin tracking. Then set the timer or click on
the toolbar icon. The program will check with any of several free quote servers
to get the latest numbers, color-code the data to highlight important trends,
and display the latest charts. Links with dates put you in touch with news on
hot issues. Graphs are available for analysis with common performance
indicators, and sample data lets you explore the information before you enter
your own stocks. The help manual explains the operations and setup to help you
get the most out of PQS. Be sure to register to with Yahoo.com and
freerealtime.com before launching PQS. Then take advantage of the wealth of
information available online to make you wealthy.
Personal Stock Monitor SE (PSM) is
the ad-supported version of a system that retrieves stock quotes for multiple
portfolios from a variety of delayed Internet quote servers covering 15
markets. It offers a strong feature set to manage your portfolio, even without
the advanced features of the retail versions. Simply enter stock symbols, and
PSM automatically calls on any of a dozen quote servers to get prices at any
interval you specify. Your investments can be organized in an Explorer-style
hierarchical folder system, with easy drag-and-drop for management. Tight
integration with Internet information lets you organize sources of financial
info beyond quote fetching, using bookmarks or favorites as you would with your
browser. An optional stock ticker can display stock prices, and a nicely
organized toolbar eases use. Other features include dial-up and proxy settings,
news retrieval, extensive charting, symbol lookup, and import/export with
Quicken, MSMoney, Metastock, and others. A network check wizard detects your
Internet connection, lets you set your browser, and verifies links to critical
sites; then detailed, well-organized help and an introductory tutorial provide
the details. You can purchase
Projecta is a project expense
database with up to 12 cost categories and 99 cost accounts per categories. The
database lets you tabulate budgeted amounts, variances, totals, contracts, and
several other critical numbers. The pushbutton interface makes it easy to jump
from table to table where drop-down picklists make it easy to enter data.
Although the program continually updates summaries of the columns, you won't
find online help or an easy way to generate reports highlighting important
areas. You may find that a good spreadsheet program will give you more
capability.
QuikGraf instantly creates any of
11 graph types, including 2D, 3D, bar, pie, bubble, and high-low. Easily enter
data in a spreadsheet-type grid. Control all graphic elements by editing fonts,
labels, legends, colors, borders, and patterns. Add or delete rows and columns
with a mouse click. Save graphs as BMP or WMF files, or send them to the
clipboard for export. This version introduces a radically streamlined interface
that replaces menus by placing program features into dialog boxes you access by
double-clicking on chart elements. This approach can complicate locating
crucial program features, such as selection of chart type, but offers control
of all graphic details.
QuoteGrabber uses your Internet
connection to grab delayed quotes and charts from U.S., Canadian, French,
German, and other market Web sources at intervals you specify. The main
window's Market Watch section includes your personalized list of stocks,
charts, and news items, and includes a search function for stock symbols.
Separate portfolios can be created and saved in the registered version.
QuoteGrabber suuports Alerts, which can be configured to send you an email
message. The Java-based system will install its own runtime or can use support
components installed with MS Internet Explorer 5.0. Some help topics are not
yet complete in this version of QuoteGrabber, and certain components, such as
news, did not operate as expected, but this product is presently in beta.
QuotesNow! goes beyond the usual
quote-gathering functions to retrieve news, graphs, and other information to
satisfy your investment-monitoring requirements. The intuitive, multiple-window
interface lets you add symbols for information on your investments. It can also
browse and can go to user-defined, subscription-only sites -- as well as free
real-time and delayed-quote servers in differing formats. Features include
stock alerts, automatic updating, stock symbol lookups, links to relevant
sites, and a wide variety of options to help you customize program performance.
QuotesNow! is a nicely written interface to the many investment-related
resources available on the Web, and it's well documented. You'll also find
sample programming code (so that you can create add-ins to the system) and an
update feature that lets you keep your program current by connecting to the
author's Website. If you wish to evaluate the pro version, which includes
scripting and support for historical quotes stored in the AIQ data format, you
must email the author to get a key. Pricing shown is subject to change.
QuotesStation is designed
specifically for the financial investor. It is a portfolio manager, a browser
and a financial portal for your desktop. It may change the way you surf the web
and help you navigate the web more easily and productively.
QuoteTracker offers stock quotes
from more than 75 free and subscription Internet sites, and can support
multiple portfolios. This free system has a great deal to offer investors with
its wide range of capabilities, friendly interface, and online updating.
QuoteTracker has a good selection of options to customize the spreadsheet-style
view, allowing you to modify column and font selections and to choose colors
for the dual pricing and volume charts it provides. QuoteTracker includes a
watch list, an optional stock ticker, audible alerts, and access to fifteen
Web-based reports. Illustrated documentation describes the system's
capabilities and how to use them. An option to update the software and stock
formats from the author's site is included.
This program upgrades earlier
editions of QuoTracker to version 2.0.1. QuoTracker (available in our library)
is a tool that helps you to monitor and track your investments in the North
American market. It collects and connects information (chart, quote, news,
profile, etc.) from different free Internet services, puts everything onto an
easy-to-glance Explorer-like interface, and lets you access this info quickly.
Quoter is a simple web browser
that only works with a specific list of web sites. By working in this manner,
your "normal" web browsing is never affected. Quoter, will wake up as
frequently as you require and retrieve quotes. It will then cycle this list
through a small window that you can place anywhere on the screen. Top

Stock Calculator is a basic
calculator that can compute stock purchase and sale factors. When you're
buying, it can interactively multiply the share price by the number of shares
to determine the cash outlay, or solve for any missing operand. When you're
thinking of selling, Stock Calculator can compute a profit amount, or determine
a selling price target based on the profit amount you enter. Finally, you can
enter a flat rate or percentage commission and factor that into the
calculation. Stock Calculator can accept decimals or fractions, so you can
avoid converting the common fractions used in the market, but it cannot print
or save data. The program is not complex, but it is designed to perform the
most important calculations needed in stock trades.
Stock Growth RateCalculator is a
helpful tool for computing the effective interest rates of your investments. A
clear tabbed interface makes access easy, and a good help file and sample data
are included to assist you in learning the system and the usefulness of its
bottom-line output. Simply enter the amount invested, the current balance, and
date of investment to receive an interest rate, so you can compare it to other
investments and evaluate the return. Rates between dates can also be
determined, along with projected balances based on your rate guesses, with
compounding effects. Comments can be added, to put investments and results in
perspective. Reports can be generated in HTML format, ready to view, save, and
print.
Stock Helper is a very simple
utility for determining a point at which you wish to sell stock. Simply decide
whether you want to buy or sell the stock, and then enter the stock symbol,
number of shares, cost per share, and the commission required for the purchase
or sale. The program (after a brief pause to encourage you to register)
computes and displays the price point for breaking even or gains of 5-25% in 5%
steps. No printing, saving, or other basic features are available. Stock Helper
isn't a bad tool, although it can easily be replicated in any spreadsheet
program. This trial version calculates only the first of the five available
stocks, in order to motivate registration.
Fast, powerful, and easy to use
predicting tool for online investors. Quotes, news, charts, forecasts. Table
and graphics form of data presentation. Multiply portfolios, easy auto-tracking
and management. Alerts system. Context-sensitive help system.
Stock Partner is a slick
specialized calculator that any Wall Street follower should find useful. Simply
enter the standard information about any of your potential stock trades, and
the program evaluates the potential profitability. Slider bars on major values
let you easily vary data to study any changing conditions. To put you in the
right mood, Stock Partner can even simulate the flow of a stock ticker. Several
printed reports are available, including IRS 1040 Schedules B and D. This
evaluation version is fully functional except that the stock prices are limited
to $10. This version is a minor update.
StockQuest Stock Value Analyser is
a tool to model and analyze investments. Enter a stock's annual earnings,
dividend, estimated annual growth rate, years of sustainable growth, and your
target yield, to calculate the theoretical stock value. A tool converts P/E
ratio to annual earnings and dividend yields to dividend payments. This program
is basically a single problem calculator. There is no provision for saving
calculations or estimates. You can gain some insights into stock valuations and
the relationship of dividends, yields and growth to actual pricing, but I
wouldn't make major investments based upon the predictions.
Stock Spread Calculator 32 can
help you to make buy/sell decisions by displaying net profits in a
spreadsheet-style view. Enter buy/sell data, including share price, number of
shares, and commission in dollars or percentage. The system computes and shows
you profits using your data, alongside buy/sell variations based on an
increment you enter. It will preview and print the data but unfortunately won't
let you save or copy it. A Stock Fraction Calculator is also included, with
radio buttons for fraction choices that let you use the output as the buy/sell
price in the calculator. This interactive calculator is easy to use and
provides useful alternative scenarios for your buy/sell decisions.
Stock Updater is an easy to use
program that can downloads historical stock data from Yahoo and WallStreetCity
on the Internet. The intuitive program lets you enter stock symbols, specify
one or all, and then retrieve the historical data you require for use with
other programs, automatically at specific times if you wish. Settings let you
choose a date range and get daily, weekly, or monthly figures. Options let you
receive the data in seven formats from WallStreetCity, including Quicken,
MetaStock, AIQ, SuperCharts, Invest 5, and .dif spreadsheet files; Yahoo
inquiries only can deliver the .csv file format. You can import stock lists
into Stock Updater, and maintain multiple lists. You can also contact BigCharts
Website to view a selected stock. Other features include a built-in text file
viewer and printer, a download progress indicator, and proxy server settings.
You are allowed 15 runs of this trial version.
Stock1 is a small, easy-to-use
utility that will fetch the latest quotes for any 20 stocks. Enter the symbol
for the stocks you want to monitor, or get the symbol by clicking the link to a
symbol search Website, then get the latest updates and charts every 20 minutes.
You can retrieve IntraDay charts and 30-month historical charts with volume and
hi/lo/close info for any stock in the picklist. A link to stock news helps you
find the latest happenings. You can't summarize the data for a total portfolio
view, but for the small investor in a limited number of issues this program
offers a lot of convenience. There's a brief help file to get you started and
one stock entry to exercise the program features.
StockAgent Pro queries Internet
sources to track any number of portfolios and stocks, delivering everything
from the latest price and volume to dividend information. You can open multiple
portfolio windows, display valuation, and update data promptly or at any
interval you select. The program's window can display any of 25 different bits
of data about your stocks, and portfolio reports can be printed, copied, or
saved as text or a neat HTML document. Several popular Web sites are available
from StockAgent Pro, and you can add your own personal bookmarks as well as use
menu items to query Web services for information, reports, newsgroups, and more
about a specific stock. StockAgent Pro is an easy-to-use tool that can provide
valuable information very conveniently.
StockPager retrieves quotes on up
to ten symbols and forwards them to your alphanumeric pager. To use it, you add
symbols to the dialog box, enter a valid pager ID, select the appropriate
paging service, and indicate the interval at which you would like updates.
There is also an option to receive reports only during market hours, as
determined by Pacific Standard Time. The program is designed to work on a PC
that has a direct Internet connection. It uses the Web -- through an
unspecified service, where quotes are delayed by at least 15 minutes -- to
obtain quotes and forward them to your pager. The supported pager services have
Web-based notification systems that allow StockPager to send information via
Web pages. StockPager supports PageNet Local (which appears to be local to San
Jose), PageNet Nationwide, and MobileComm/MobileMedia pager systems (although
the program has not been tested on MobilMedia).
Note: The program does not validate symbols, so make sure they are
entered correctly if you want accurate information.
StockPoll queries Yahoo to gather
data on stock prices and displays recent, although not current, pricing, high,
low, change, opening price, and volume. An active graphing feature displays the
daily trends. StockPoll can also retrieve historical graphics covering various
time periods but offers no printing capabilities. An alarm can be set for high
and low limits. Minimally featured and allowing only one stock symbol in this
trial version, StockPoll is overpriced and will satisfy only simple
requirements.
Stocks & Fractions v1.03
<ASP> Unique built- in fraction calculator allows investor to calculate

StockTick is a system for managing
your investment portfolio, with access to free quote and information Internet
servers. Its wealth of features and interface, complete with tree-style menus
and a friendly toolbar, make it very accessible and easy to use. A step-by-step
wizard helps you to set up an initial portfolio, including purchase dates and
commissions. The system supports multiple investment portfolios and offers
daily email messages of reports, including histories, quotes, and news. It can
be reduced to display only the customizable ticker strip. Other features
include history information with meaningful computations, access to news and
graphs for selected securities, general market information, proxy support,
price alerts, and more.
StockVue 2000 monitors your stock
and mutual fund investments. With automatic or on-demand retrieval of quotes,
news, and filings from Quote.com, it will keep you advised of critical
investment opportunities. Using an attractive interface, you can import/export
your data from word processors, spreadsheets, fax, pager, and Quicken files and
even synch with your Palm or WinCE PDA. The integrated BusinessVue lets you get
the news, announcements, and other information critical to smart investing. You
set alarms for target pricing notices and can minimize the display to just a
ticker tape. Updates can be scheduled with the fully configurable agent. This
is "push" Internet technology applied to the financial world. The
software is free, but your registration will result in some "targeted
marketing."
StockWiz Search searches for
financial information using your Internet connection and Microsoft Internet
Explorer browser. Just enter a ticker symbol and choose the type of information
you need, and the system will scan the many public sites that can provide
investment information, including current and past status. You don't
necessarily need to know the ticker symbol, and other financially oriented
information is also accessible, such as foreign exchange rates. Because
StockWiz Search scans for the information you need, you'll avoid working your
way through many pages in multiple sites.
Stocky will fetch free real-time
quotes from stock exchanges all over the world. It has a European focus but may
suit your needs, particularly if you speak German. Choose Nasdaq, Frankfurt,
Vienna, Zurich, Paris, London, Milan, Brussels, Amsterdam, Canada, AMEX, NYSE,
Oslo, and Johannesburg from the configuration picklist. Enter your holdings and
configure Stocky with the easy-to-use tabbed setup dialog. Then while you're
online, Stocky will download the latest info and give you an audio message when
issues move beyond preset values. The stock table display is easy to read and
can be configured in a choice of colors. Many program controls are in German,
as are links to Websites for financial news, history, and performance charting.
Trade Simulator lets you try your
hand a commodity trading without the risk. Just select a commodity, choose
contract dates, and view charts in different formats. The program simulates
commodity market action. Trade, then view account history to evaluate your
skill. Trade Simulator is well-written and fully documented. This is a minor
update.
Trademan helps you to make better
market decisions through application of an incredible array of performance
indicators. Start by exploring the sample portfolio, then create as many
portfolios as you need with your favorite issues to watch. The program will
quickly retrieve the latest quotes and history files for whatever period you
select. Then choose the indicators you want to apply. A three-click process on
the performance plots lets you see prediction ranges using a full menu of
respected analysis tools. It will help to have some market knowledge prior to
exploring these analyses, but the well-written help file will get you over most
rough spots.
TraderMetrics is a trading
simulator for the spot currency exchange market. It could be a great training
aid for aspiring traders. Choose from a list of currency pairs such as U.S.
dollars to euros. Then buy, sell, bid, and interpret the continuous flow of
data. The multipaned interface offers news, messages, performance data,
transaction reports, and graphs of the performance of your selected currency.
The action is realistic and your interface is similar to that used by
professional traders with options for stop-loss alarms, buy/sell triggers, and
other performance metrics. Still, the program could use a manual and a
data-export capability.
